When Jesus was raised up he used Joseph tools to build what his family needed and also to provide income by providing service to others. When He started the ministry in Galilee he called different types of people to be with Him for some years and later he gave direction for the rest of their lives.
Can I call His apostles tools? I’m not looking to diminish their individual approach and decision-making, but to bring up a topic that might help some of us. We as Christians confess that we live for the glory of God, so indirectly we are saying that we are tools serving God’s purposes in God’s timing.
Remember the tools found in the Beast’ castle, where Belle was confined. Although in their former lives they were persons, for that season they were acting as tools in the castle. All of them had their individuality expressed in various ways, but all tried to work together for the good of their master.
It looks like in the workspace of God, we are all tools, who can chose to work for good of the Master. Surely we are his sons and daughters, his delight in Jesus, but as related to responsibility and work, we are tools. Designed for different purposes.
Bob Dylan in his song “You Gotta serve somebody” has the repetitive line of the refrain: “Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord, But you’re gonna have to serve somebody“
Let’s ask ourselves today, in which hands are you serving today?
