Is Jesus friend of Sinners?

If you have been long around churches you might have heard the saying “Jesus is friend of sinners”. If not you might have heard the song with that title. If not you might have read the Gospel of Mathew chapter 11 where Jesus mentions that.

Is that true? Was Jesus friend of sinners?

Whatever is the answer might have implications in our understanding of Jesus with sinners, with us and how we deal with sinners too.
